The Center for Christian Education (CCE) in Martin is celebrating its’ 15th anniversary. Additionally, Friday was a national holiday to commemorate the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of saints Cyril (Constantine) and Methodius in Greater Moravia from Salonika (now called Thessaloniki). Thanks to these brothers, the Bible was translated into the language of the people shortly before the year 885. This is known as the Kralice Bible and it was written in the Old Church Slavonic language.
As part of this celebration, the CCE held a program this weekend which included a VBS closing celebration, a reception, several lectures, a choir concert by the St Andrews choir from Minnesota and a wonderful barbecue on Saturday evening with live Slovak music and traditional folk dances. This morning there was an open air worship service by the Martin Lutheran congregation. The choir from St Andrews and the choir from the Martin church provided additional music. A church picnic with several varieties of goulash (delicious!!!) followed.
We are now in our dormitory rooms and are getting ready for tomorrow and the beginning of our English classes.
