As part of our beginning class, our fearless leader, Brenda, gave us the assignment of doing a “pretend”shopping trip to the market in order to learn the English names of fruits and vegetables. These young students showed Robin and I all the ways children have fun in the town center on the way: playing in the water running down the string on the Martin sign, leading us to an out-of-the-way playground, flicking water at each other from yet another fountain, and of course slipping and sliding on the tile floors. These girls were so filled with joy, it was quite contagious. Our assignment was soon completed with much laughter.
Afterwards, ice cream or in Slovak “zmrzlina” was part of the expedition. The time spent with these students was the highlight of my trip so far!
