Yesterday, the majority of us went to Auschwitz and Krakow. We left early in the morning and drove straight to Auschwitz. I think a softly spoken “wow” is the only way to sum it up. It’s hard to imagine the atrocities that were committed there even when you see the artifacts – hair, shoes, suitcases with victims names, shaving kits. I found myself remaining emotionally disconnected as we walked through the museum, mostly because my only other option was to break down and cry, especially when looking at the baby booties.
From there we went to Birken-nau. The immensity of the place is simply overwhelming.
If there was ever a question that this is a broken world in need of a Savior…
Next – Krakow! What a beautiful city! We had three hours in the city center – we could have used three days! Restaurants surround the square and there are wonderful stores everywhere. Right down the middle of the square is a large building filled with jewelry, native clothing, wooden crafts, crystal, etc. Unfortunately, Mark and I got separated and I had no cash.
Or perhaps that was his plan all along…
Wow, I could never imagine going to Auschwitz, I probably would’ve had the same reaction as you. I could imagine it being a very heartbreaking experience though.
As for Krakow, too bad on getting separated from Mark!
Just saw the pictures – oh my. The evil that we do to one another! But He loves us anyway. “We all like sheep have gone astray, each of us to his own way. But the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
Krakow and the surrounding countryside look amazing. What a great adventure you all are having!
