As we stood in the Portland airport preparing to leave I received a text from a friend I had not seen in over 12 years. He was wondering why he even tried anymore. This is a man who has dedicated himself to public service- several years in the military, a full carreer in law enforcement (nearly 30 years), and currently doing similar service for the Dept of Natural Resources. He was asking me for an encouraging word.
His text was born of the frustration over the needless loss of life in Dallas, Tx less than a week ago- the wounds of the news still fresh…why am I bothering anymore, brother, I need an ecouraging word.
I too was suffering from the news, it was distracting from the joy of launching into His service, my first time in Slovakia.
I prayed and the Lord was faithul. Preparations for Slovakia had also prepared me to speak the following to my friend, “He is still on the throne. He is not surprised by any of this, deeply grieved, but not surprised. In the end we know He wins the victory and it shall be forever more!”
Not only was my friend encouraged, but so was I. A renewed sense of peace and joy followed as we traveled the many thousands of miles to reach Martin.
Confirmation. The Lord has a wonderful way of saying, yes, you’re on track. This morning during our breakfast devotional, Shelly Johnson echoed the same words of encouragement with striking similarity. She encouraged us with His truth that He has prepared good works for us, well in advance of ever signing up to go.
Getting here was just another part of being used for His glory, and it started long before I arrived at the airport.
It’s been a fabulous few days already…more to come. I can’t wait to see what He has in store next!
Thank you so much for your support and prayers,
