Where the Joy Comes From 1

Without any warning, we’ve already made it to the last day of classes, and I’m feeling like I’m just getting started. I keep hearing murmurings of “I’m not ready to go home yet.” If you’ve heard that from someone you know on the team, I’ll let you in on a not-so-secret secret: it’s because of these people.

Have there been challenges? Of course. What thing worth the effort doesn’t have challenges? But as I’ve been navigating the last two weeks, I’ve been holding onto a verse that has new meaning for me.

Nehemiah 8:10 says, “…the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

So even in the midst of doing things that wreck our comfort zones (in the best way possible), not getting enough sleep, fighting back sickness, and all the other little things that come up, we can get this joy straight from the Source–delivered to us through the smiles and laughter of our Slovak friends and our teammates. That’s been an incredible gift for me. I haven’t felt this light and joy-filled in a long time, and even though I am sad to have our time here draw to a close, I’m looking forward to carrying the joy home with me. (I’m also looking forward to a return trip next year, Lord willing!)

I’m praying you find that joy and strength today, too.
