The students were practicing making up questions, proper grammar, sentence structure, verb tense, and presentation today. At a certain point they would stand up in front of the class and ask another student their question they had been working on. For many students the choices presented in the questions involved material things – food, money, houses, vacations, clothes, and so on. While the questions were not meant to be serious in nature, at all, the answers would sometimes reveal the values or desires of the student answering the question.
One student asked a very intriguing question, “If you had a choice between more money than you could ever imagine, or true love for the rest of your life, which would you choose?” Remember, the student was asking another student to answer in front of the entire class, and the student being asked was a 15 year old boy (not in the photo). I would have guessed in a heart beat the boy would have answered “the money!” because cars, clothes, houses, travel, prestige, etc.
But, the greatest of these is Love.
Instead, quite boldly, he answered, “true love!” It struck me – more money than he could ever imagine, but he chose true love. Much later in the day a student I befriended last year and is here again this year posted a photo of him and I together, and commented on it, “My best American friend”. I felt loved, and believe he does too. Sometimes I am asked why I come to Slovakia. It is because of Love. Because Jesus loved me and because I want to share that love, True Love, with everyone- and especially with all of my Slovak friends.
Thank you for continuing to pray for the team, the students, the CCE staff, and all of those along our path who we encounter while serving, in His love.
